12 July 2023

I’m writing this on 1 July 2023 because tomorrow we will be home from our New York trip. In other words, past Satia is writing today’s post.

It’s the perfect opportunity to share a little about our first trip to NY.

(insert flashback ripples here)

About 10 years ago, Rob and I went to New York. It was his first time going and he was hoping to see the Naked Cowboy.

I told him not to get his hopes up. But we were pretty excited. We had tickets to see Chicago on Broadway. I dragged him to the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Natural History. He went to the Frick Gallery without me (because I caught a terrible cold, the absolute worst of my life). We meandered around Central Park and Greenwich Village.

The day we walked around the park, he wanted a gyro. But not a restaurant one. He wanted one off one of those food trucks.

And yes, somehow we ran into the Naked Cowboy.

(insert eye roll here)

I showed Rob where I went to elementary school and middle school. His uncles came in from Philadelphia and we visited Grand Central Station and St Patrick’s Cathedral.

At Rob’s behest, we took the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.

Basically, we hit many of the cultural highlights and a couple of tourist spots.

We also had lunch with my mother and dinner with one of my childhood friends.

It was a lot to pack into a week-long trip.

You’d think we would have learned. But we didn’t. We’re packing a lot of stuff into a weeklong trip. I’m scheduling this post to appear on the day before we fly back so a New York 2023 post is coming soon.
